The Independent Parental Supporter

How can an Independent Parental Supporter (IPS) help parents?

If you are a parent or carer of a child with special educational needs, an IPS can:

Children Talking
bullet point Help with issues related to your child's education
bullet point Help you to be fully involved as a partner in your child's education
bullet point Listen to your concerns and help you to express your views
bullet point Help you to access relevant and up-to-date information
bullet point Explain procedures and choices
bullet point Explain about assessment and statementing
bullet point Help you to fill in forms, write letters and reports
bullet point Go with you to meetings.

Norfolk Parent Partnership has a team of Independent Parental Supporters

They:

Girl & Boy
bullet point are volunteers
bullet point have initial training accredited by the Open College Network  
bullet point get ongoing training and support from the Norfolk Parent Partnership team.

Some voluntary organisations and parent support groups also offer similar advice and support.
